Treasure Island
Every day of this expedition begins at the water's edge — and in the British Virgin Islands, the water is the destination. The BVI is one of the world's great sailing territories, a scattered archipelago of over 60 islands and cays set in the crystal waters of the northeastern Caribbean, where trade winds blow steady and anchorages are sheltered and calm. The Baths on Virgin Gorda are among the most extraordinary natural formations in the Caribbean — a labyrinth of giant granite boulders tumbled by volcanic forces into grottos, pools, and passages that open directly onto crystal water and white sand. Tortola is the largest island and the sailing capital of the BVI, its Road Town harbour lined with charter yachts and its hillsides draped in tropical forest. Norman Island is said to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, and its underwater caves are among the finest snorkel sites in the Caribbean. This 5-day circuit is structured around five water experiences — snorkelling The Baths, sailing Tortola, swimming Virgin Gorda, diving Norman Island, and sailing the sunset coast — each one shaped by the sailing water and the BVI people who built this island territory.
Daylite Digital is not an all-inclusive operator. We are an expedition curator — we design the itinerary framework, structure the sailing water circuit, assign your Ambassador, and coordinate booking access to every experience on this page. Your Ambassador manages reservations, logistics, and on-the-ground coordination throughout. The British Virgin Islands and their sailing waters do the rest.
The British Virgin Islands are a British Overseas Territory in the northeastern Caribbean, comprising four main islands — Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke — and over 50 smaller cays and islets. The islands were originally inhabited by the Arawak and Carib peoples before European contact. The BVI came under British control in the 17th century and remained a British territory through the colonial period, developing a plantation economy based on sugar and cotton. The BVI people are a blend of African, British, and Caribbean heritage, shaped by centuries of maritime trade, seafaring, and island life. The territory gained a degree of self-governance in 1967 and today operates as a British Overseas Territory with its own elected government.
The BVI's position at the northeastern edge of the Caribbean, where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea, gives the islands their defining characteristic — steady trade winds and crystal sailing water. The BVI became one of the world's premier sailing destinations in the 1960s and 1970s, when charter yacht companies established bases in Road Town, Tortola, and the territory has been a sailing paradise ever since. The Baths on Virgin Gorda — a UNESCO-recognised natural landmark — are formed from ancient granite boulders that create a series of grottos, pools, and passages unique in the Caribbean.
The BVI's water personality is sailing water — steady trade winds, crystal anchorages, and island-hopping by sea. Every experience below is coordinated via your Daylite Digital Ambassador on request.
