Every day of this expedition begins at the water's edge — and in San Andres and Providencia, the water is the Caribbean at its most crystalline. The San Andres Archipelago is Colombia's Caribbean jewel — a UNESCO Sea Flower Biosphere Reserve of coral reefs, turquoise lagoons, and Raizal Afro-Caribbean culture that sits closer to Nicaragua than to mainland Colombia. San Andres island is the commercial and cultural hub — a place of white sand beaches, coral gardens, and the famous seven-colour sea of El Acuario. Johnny Cay, a tiny coral island just off San Andres, is the archipelago's signature water experience — a natural park of white sand and Caribbean surf. Old Providence (Providencia), 90 kilometres north, is one of the most pristine islands in the Caribbean — a place of volcanic peaks, mangrove lagoons, and the Raizal people whose Creole English, music, and fishing culture have shaped this archipelago for centuries. The Sea Flower Biosphere Reserve, declared by UNESCO in 2000, protects one of the most biodiverse coral reef systems in the western hemisphere.
Daylite Digital is an accommodation curator. We secure your hotel or guesthouse across this entire Colombia archipelago circuit — that is what your package price covers. All snorkel gear fees, boat fees, catamaran fees, cultural access fees, inter-island transport, and meals are arranged independently by the traveller and paid directly to local operators. The Daylite Ambassador is an optional service, available separately.
The Raizal people are the indigenous Afro-Caribbean community of the San Andres Archipelago — descendants of enslaved Africans brought by English Puritan settlers in the 17th century, and of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean coast. The Raizal speak Creole English (San Andres Creole), practice Baptist Christianity, and maintain a distinct cultural identity rooted in fishing, music (calypso, reggae, vallenato), and the sea. Spain and England contested the archipelago for centuries before Colombia claimed sovereignty in 1822. The Raizal have fought to preserve their language, land, and culture against mainland Colombian migration and tourism development. Old Providence (Providencia) remains the most culturally intact Raizal island — a place where the old fishing traditions, Creole English, and Caribbean music still define daily life.
San Andres and Providencia's water personality is crystal water — the seven-colour sea of El Acuario, the turquoise lagoons of Old Providence, and the coral gardens of the Sea Flower Biosphere that make this one of the most biodiverse marine environments in the Caribbean. All water experiences are arranged independently and paid to local operators at point of service.
San Andres and Providencia's water personality is crystal water — luminous, biodiverse, and culturally charged. All experiences below are paid directly to local operators at point of service.
