About This Expedition

This 9-day Solomon Islands expedition combines the Pacific War's most significant battlefield with some of Melanesia's most intact kastom culture and the world's greatest wreck diving. Daylite Digital secures your accommodation across Honiara and Western Province. All activity fees, entry fees, transport costs, and tour fees are arranged independently by the traveller and paid directly to local operators.

The Solomons are Melanesian — home to some of the Pacific's oldest human settlements, with archaeological evidence of habitation going back 30,000 years. The Battle of Guadalcanal (1942–43) was the turning point of the Pacific War. Iron Bottom Sound — named for the hundreds of ships sunk there — and the wreck of PT-109 (John F. Kennedy's torpedo boat) make the Solomons one of the world's greatest wreck diving destinations.

The Solomon Islanders · 30,000 Years · 70 Languages · Living Kastom

The Solomon Islands are Melanesian — home to some of the Pacific's oldest human settlements, with archaeological evidence of habitation going back 30,000 years. The island peoples maintain over 70 distinct languages and some of the Pacific's most intact kastom traditions, including the nguzu nguzu (war canoe prow figurines) carved to protect canoes from sea spirits, and the Are'are people of Malaita whose pan-pipe musical tradition is considered one of the most sophisticated indigenous music systems in Oceania.

The Solomons were the site of the Pacific War's most brutal island campaign — the Battle of Guadalcanal (1942–43) was the turning point of the Pacific War, where 7,000 Americans and 31,000 Japanese soldiers died fighting for a jungle island. Iron Bottom Sound (named for the hundreds of ships sunk there) and the wreck of PT-109 (John F. Kennedy's torpedo boat) make the Solomons one of the world's greatest wreck diving destinations.
