Deep in Namibia's restricted diamond coast lies Oranjemund — a town built on diamonds, desert, and the powerful Orange River. One of southern Africa's most exclusive and rarely visited destinations, Oranjemund sits at the edge of the Sperrgebiet (Forbidden Territory) — a vast restricted zone where Namdeb Diamond Corporation has mined the world's richest alluvial diamond deposits for over a century.
En route south, the journey passes through Aus — home to the legendary wild horses of the Namib Desert, a herd of feral horses that have survived extreme heat, drought, and desert conditions for over 100 years. The Garub waterhole near Aus is one of the world's finest locations to photograph wild horses against a desert landscape.
The return route follows the Orange River corridor through Aussenkehr — Namibia's extraordinary desert grape farming region where irrigation agriculture thrives in one of the world's driest landscapes. Optional cultural encounters with the San (Bushmen), the Baster people of Rehoboth, and the Nama people of the Orange River region complete this extraordinary southern Namibia journey.
