About this experience

The Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia is one of the last places on Earth where ancient tribal cultures survive largely intact — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most extraordinary human landscapes on the planet. Over 200,000 people from more than 16 distinct ethnic groups live in the Lower Omo Valley, many still practising traditions that predate recorded history. This is not a cultural performance — this is living heritage.

The Mursi are famous for the lip plates worn by women — one of the most striking cultural practices in the world. The Hamar are known for their bull-jumping ceremony, a rite of passage for young men. The Karo decorate their bodies with chalk, charcoal and ochre in extraordinary patterns. The Dassanech live along the shores of Lake Turkana, one of the world's great desert lakes. This 11-day journey is one of the most profound human experiences available anywhere on Earth. Verified local Ambassadors guide every step with deep respect for all communities.

Omo Valley · 16 Tribes · Living Heritage · Ancient Traditions · UNESCO

The Lower Omo Valley was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 for its extraordinary archaeological and anthropological significance. Human fossils found here date back 2.5 million years — making this one of the most important sites in the story of human evolution. The tribes of the Omo Valley have maintained their distinct languages, ceremonies, and ways of life for thousands of years, largely isolated from the outside world by the valley's remote geography.
