The Tonga people of the Zambezi Valley are one of Zambia's most ancient peoples — displaced by the creation of Lake Kariba in 1958, one of the largest forced relocations in African history. The Lozi kingdom of Barotseland, upstream on the Zambezi, holds the Kuomboka ceremony — one of Africa's most spectacular royal traditions.
