Chocolate Hills
This 10-day Visayas expedition moves through the heartland of Filipino Catholicism and the birthplace of Philippine nationhood — Cebu's Spanish heritage, Mactan's Lapulapu legacy, Oslob's whale sharks, and Bohol's Chocolate Hills. Daylite Digital secures your accommodation across this Cebu-and-Bohol circuit. All activity fees, boat fees, entry fees, and tour fees are arranged independently by the traveller and paid directly to local operators.
The Visayas is where Philippine history began — where Magellan planted the first cross in 1521 and where Lapulapu became the first Asian leader to repel a European coloniser. Add the Chocolate Hills, whale sharks, and the world's finest lechon, and you have the emotional and culinary heart of the archipelago.
The Cebuano People · Birthplace of Philippine Nationhood · Lapulapu & the Chocolate Hills
The Visayas — the central island group of the Philippines — is the heartland of Filipino Catholicism and the birthplace of Philippine nationhood. It was here in Cebu that Ferdinand Magellan planted the first cross on Philippine soil in 1521, and here that Lapulapu — the first Filipino hero — killed him in the Battle of Mactan, making Lapulapu the first Asian leader to repel a European coloniser.
The Cebuano people are the second-largest ethnolinguistic group in the Philippines, with their own distinct language, a passion for lechon (roasted suckling pig considered the finest in the world by Anthony Bourdain), and the Sinulog festival — one of the grandest Catholic street celebrations in Asia.
Bohol's Chocolate Hills — 1,268 perfectly conical grass-covered hills turning chocolate-brown in the dry season — are the geological wonder of the Visayas, sacred in Boholano legend as the tears of a giant mourning his lost love.
The Visayas' personality is Spanish colonial heritage, marine wildlife, geological wonder, and Cebuano cuisine. All experiences below are paid directly to local operators at point of service.
