This 9-day Samoa circuit moves from Apia’s colonial waterfront and Robert Louis Stevenson Museum through the extraordinary To-Sua Ocean Trench and Papapapai-tai Falls on Upolu’s south coast, then crosses to Savai’i — the largest Polynesian island — for lava fields, Afu Aau waterfall, and traditional fale village stays. Daylite Digital secures your accommodation across this extraordinary Polynesian circuit. All activity fees, entry fees, transport costs, and tour fees are arranged independently by the traveller and paid directly to local operators.
Samoa is where Polynesian culture is most purely preserved. The Fa’a Samoa (the Samoan Way) is a comprehensive social code governing family (aiga) obligation, chiefly (matai) authority, communal land ownership, and the fono (village council) system of governance that functions entirely independently of the national government.
The Fa’a Samoa · Aiga, Matai & Hawaiki — The Ancestral Homeland of All Polynesia
Samoa is believed by many Polynesian scholars to be Hawaiki — the ancestral homeland from which all Polynesian peoples (Hawaiian, Maori, Tongan, Cook Islander, Tahitian) spread across the Pacific over 3,000 years of deliberate ocean navigation. The Fa’a Samoa (the Samoan Way) is a comprehensive social code governing family (aiga) obligation, chiefly (matai) authority, communal land ownership, and the fono (village council) system of governance that functions entirely independently of the national government.
The pe’a — the traditional Samoan male full-body tattoo covering from waist to knees, applied over weeks using bone combs and soot — is one of the world’s most painful and culturally significant tattooing traditions and a living connection to pre-colonial Polynesian identity. Robert Louis Stevenson (author of Treasure Island) spent his final years in Apia and is buried on Mount Vaea, having called Samoa his spiritual home.
Samoa’s personality is pure Polynesian culture, extraordinary natural swimming holes, volcanic wilderness, and the living chiefly system of the Fa’a Samoa. All experiences below are paid directly to local operators at point of service.
