Every day of this expedition begins at the water's edge — and in Bonaire, the water begins at the road's edge. Bonaire is the diving capital of the Caribbean and one of the finest shore diving destinations on the planet. The island is a 288-square-kilometre Dutch Caribbean special municipality in the southern Caribbean, part of the ABC Islands chain with Aruba and Curacao, located 80 kilometres north of Venezuela. Unlike most dive destinations where you need a boat to reach the reef, Bonaire's fringing reef begins just metres from the shore — you walk in, descend, and the coral world begins immediately. The entire coastline is a protected marine park: Bonaire National Marine Park, established in 1979, one of the first marine parks in the world. Over 86 dive sites are marked with yellow stones along the road. Klein Bonaire — a small uninhabited island 800 metres offshore — is the crown jewel of the reef circuit. On land, the southern salt flats host one of the largest flamingo colonies in the Caribbean at Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary. Washington Slagbaai National Park covers a third of the island.
Daylite Digital is an accommodation curator. We secure your dive lodge or resort across this entire Bonaire circuit — that is what your package price covers. All dive equipment rental, boat charters, park entry fees, kayak rentals, activity fees, transfers, and meals are arranged independently by the traveller and paid directly to local operators. The Daylite Ambassador is an optional service, available separately.
Bonaire is a special municipality of the Netherlands in the southern Caribbean, part of the ABC Islands chain. The island was originally inhabited by the Caquetio Arawak people before Spanish colonisation in the early 16th century. The Dutch West India Company took control in 1636 and the island remained under Dutch administration through the colonial era. The island's modern identity is rooted in its Papiamentu-speaking Afro-Caribbean heritage — the descendants of enslaved Africans who worked the salt pans and built the island's economy. Papiamentu is the local language — a creole blend of Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, English, and African languages — and it is the living cultural identity of the island.
In 2010, Bonaire became a special municipality of the Netherlands, alongside Saba and Sint Eustatius, as part of the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles. Bonaire's water personality is crystal dive water — the clearest, most biodiverse, and most accessible reef water in the Caribbean. The fringing reef begins at the shore. Klein Bonaire sits 800 metres offshore. The marine park protects 86 dive sites. All water experiences are paid directly to local operators at point of service.
