🦍 Gorilla Permit — Important Information

Uganda's gorilla permit is more accessible than Rwanda's — making Bwindi the preferred choice for budget-conscious travellers who still want the most powerful wildlife encounter on Earth. The permit fee directly funds gorilla conservation and community development in southwestern Uganda.

$700

per person · gorilla permit fee · NOT included in your Daylite Digital package price · payable to Uganda Wildlife Authority · Daylite Digital coordinates your permit booking as part of the service

About this experience

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse rainforests — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has existed for over 25,000 years and is home to almost half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Trekking through its ancient, mist-covered interior to sit with a gorilla family is an experience that changes people permanently.

This 6-day expedition gives you more time than Rwanda's focused 5-day format — because Bwindi is harder to access from Kampala, requiring an overnight stop in the southwest. The extra day allows for Lake Bunyonyi — one of Africa's most beautiful lakes — and deeper immersion in Bakiga and Batwa community culture around the forest edge.

Winston Churchill called Uganda the Pearl of Africa. Bwindi is its crown jewel.

Baganda · Bakiga · Batwa · Acholi · People & Heritage

Uganda is home to over 50 ethnic groups — one of Africa's most diverse nations. The Buganda Kingdom is one of the oldest and most powerful kingdoms on the continent. The Batwa are the original forest dwellers of Bwindi — their story is one of Africa's most important and least told.
