Departure
South Luangwa is one of Africa's greatest national parks — and the birthplace of the walking safari, pioneered by Norman Carr in the 1950s. Known as the leopard capital of Africa, this remote wilderness delivers some of the continent's most intimate wildlife encounters on foot. Combined with the vast, untamed Kafue National Park — Zambia's largest — this 9-day journey is a complete Zambian wilderness experience.
Beginning in Lusaka, Zambia's vibrant capital, you venture deep into two of Africa's most extraordinary wild places. Suitable for couples, small groups, and serious wildlife enthusiasts seeking something beyond the ordinary.
South Luangwa sits in the heartland of Zambia's diverse peoples. The Bemba are Zambia's largest ethnic group — proud, culturally rich, and deeply connected to the land. The Tonga people of the Zambezi Valley have lived alongside the great river for centuries. The Lozi of Barotseland hold one of Africa's most spectacular royal ceremonies — the Kuomboka — where the Litunga (king) moves his court from the flooded Barotse plains to higher ground each year, a living tradition of extraordinary cultural power.
